Why my baby is the reason WHY I workout-Not My Excuse!

My baby will be 4 months old next week ! 4 MONTHS OLD ! This maternity leave is flying by faster than I could ever imagine and my not so little baby is growing way too fast. It seems like since he was born we have been on the go. I remember our first “walk” was when he was 4 days old and I could barely get around our loop. At 6 weeks pp we joined Fit4Mom and have been going there almost every morning at 9am.  Some may think that I am doing this to get my “pre-baby body back” but without a doubt in my mind can say it’s something entirely different. I work out because of my baby, not despite of! He is the reason I get up everyday and go work out at my mommy class. He is the reason I do workouts at home and take the dog on long walks. He is the reason I want to be my best self. Before he was here, I was always chasing a number on the scale or a pant size. Now I’m chasing after more time with him. More time to be here with him. More time to be able to hold onto him just a little bit longer and have the arm strength to do so. I want to be able to play games with him, kick the ball around, keep up with him and be part of his fun. I want to be able to take him on adventures, be able to hike around, race him up stairs, or swim with him in the ocean. He is my reason why!

I want to show him what a healthy lifestyle is and to give him that person that he can look up to – someone who is healthy and always trying to be her better self.  It is so easy after having a baby to start into bad habits, but I want him to see something different. I want him to see that you can be happy and healthy after baby. Exercise can help with this. Exercising helps you clear your mind after you’ve had a rough day, it gives you that rush of joy after you finished a hard workout, it gives you a sense of accomplishment when you complete something that you didn’t think you could do. I’ve never heard a person say I wish I didn’t do that workout. It’s always the opposite. Working out is hard to start, but once you do you’ll feel better physically, mentally and emotionally as well. If I am happier, my baby will feel that and he will be too. He is my reason why!

Mama’s out there: you may never have the same body post baby… but you can have a new and improved one! You should feel so proud to have been able to create your little bundle of joy. Once you begin working out and start seeing those results, you will gain even more confidence than before. You should look in the mirror and be impressed for what you created and that you are trying to be a better you. This will have a positive impact on your baby! Your baby should be your reason, and heck, why not your excuse !

After reading this I hope you have found your reason why. I know what mine is. He is a blue eyed, strawberry blonde, huge tank of a 4 month old laughing at me as I write this. I know you’re tired but go and get out, get some fresh air, take that dog on a longer walk, find a Fit4Mom class or dust off an  old work out you used to love before baby. You deserve it mama!

5 Tips to Going Vegan

5 Tips to going Vegan

  1.  Know your reason why you want to become vegan. Are you doing it for health reasons, the environment or for the animals? When you feel like you’re struggling go back to this and remember the reason you are doing it in the first place.
  2.   Go at your own pace. I did not turn vegan overnight and you might not either. That is OK! Every step you make is another step in the right direction. You will get there ! There are also tons of facebook groups you can join in order to get help from others as well!
  3. Be prepared for questions and comments from others. Your eating will not be the hardest part about going vegan, at least it wasn’t for me! The social aspect is much harder to deal with then not eating any animal products! You will get the question about where you get your protein(which you can state from beans, quinoa, brown rice, vegetables, lentils etc) and you will here the comment “I could never give up meat or cheese” over and over and over again. Let this roll off your shoulder. Those who want to listen and care will. It’s not worth getting into an argument over. People always have opinions so just humble yourself and keep moving on to a healthier lifestyle !
  4. Buy some vegan cookbooks and clean out your fridge! This is so easy and fun ! If you don’t have any animal products in your house you are less likely to eat them ! So get rid of them and open up a new cookbook and get cooking ! You will not only feel better with this lifestyle but will have more energy to be able to cook! Vegan Street Fair 2017

Getting ready for Vegan Street Fair!

Where do I begin about Vegan Street Fair?  20,000 people, 100’s of vendors and a whole lot of REALLY GOOD food happened yesterday at Vegan Street Fair Los Angeles.  We went to the original Vegan Street Fair two years ago, but the huge turnout and ticket process made it difficult. This year, it was MASSIVE and had no tickets, YAY! If you didn’t make it this year , I hate to break it to you but you missed out. We arrived a little after 10:30am and found a close parking spot. We started strolling our way in and found to our surprise that some vendors were already up and cooking. Earlier in the morning we had marked down all of the vendors that we wanted to visit and where the booth was located ( THANK YOU Vegan Street Fair for making menus and locations available before the event!!). A few of ours were not open yet so we kept on strolling…. Our first stop was A Dirty Cookie! We had a double chocolate, vanilla almond milk filled, cookie shot. DIY Wooden Activity Gym

This wooden activity gym is soooo easy was inexpensive to make and Keaton loves it! It was fun making this with the hubby and making all of the wooden toys that hang off of it! These wooden toys I made are all natural and handmade and can also be used as teething beads! Credit to the hubby for writing the directions on how to create the wooden activity gym for your little bub!

Placenta Encapsulation-Why did I eat THAT!

Happy Saturday! I hope everyone had a great St Patrick’s day !  We went to bed at 8:30pm and work up around 4:30am. You know what that means? We got 8 glorious hours of sleep for the 3rd time! We have figured out that Keaton likes to have a routine. We play with him, bathe him, give him his last feeding, wrap him in his miracle swaddle,lay him down in his DockATot , make sure the room is cool and have lavender oil going in the aromatherapy machine! This has worked like a charm for 3 nights now ! Today I wanted to share with you why I ate my placenta after birth and why I would do it again.

Plant Based Diet-Why did I choose this lifestyle?

 

It’s crazy to try and think back to a time when I wasn’t vegan and eating a plant based diet . I don’t even remember the exact point in time that I became vegan, but can tell you the more I learned about a plant based diet, the more I knew I wanted to eat that way. When I moved to Southern California, I started watching documentaries about food, health and a plant based diet. I was vegetarian for probably less than a year before becoming vegan. The closer I got to a plant based diet, the better I felt. First, I gave up meat, then milk and then cheese. Cheese was the hardest to give up because I loved my wine and cheese pairings! Once I gave up cheese, I started to notice a difference right away. I had more energy and didn’t get that afternoon slump as I normally would have. I started to have an increase in energy which led me to have better workouts. I simply started to feel better. I also noticed after a few months that I stopped having headaches and migraines. This alone was enough to keep living this lifestyle. 5’ish years later I can now without a doubt say that eating a plant based diet has changed my life. I have become healthier, more physically fit and had an amazing pregnancy. Some of my most favorite documentaries on a plant based diet are:
